The workshop was held from 25th June to 2nd July in Čakovec, at ŠAF studio. Workshop leaders were two experienced and awarded animators, Yulia Aronova from Russia and Melanie Vialaneix from France.
As usual, there were around twenty children from Slovenia and different parts of Croatia involved in the workshop project. They, with a help of their leaders, made two short animated movies: “Power Plant”, an ecological cut-out movie, and the cartoon by Y. Aronova and children named “About me”.  The movies were shown in the Cultural Centre in Čakovec on Saturday, 1st of July in front of about 300 visitors. Along with workshop movies, 2 movies made by the workshop leaders and 40 minutes of the newest ŠAF production was also projected.
As the special surprise, on Thursday, there was a small projection of Mrs. Aronova and Vialaneix in the Vinary Lovrec as the part of their cultural offer. Projection was held in front of the 30 animation and ŠAF fans and a few international guests.
Friday, 30th June, was reserved for a traditional excursion through the upper Međimurje region with a special visit to the Horvat ceramics where the kids had the opportunity to see how it is made, and try to make a traditional ceramic.

Workshop was held under the patronage of the city of Čakovec and Croatian audio-visual centre.


  • She learned to direct animation films at the Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography in Moscow. She was also trained in Screenwriting there. She directs films using traditional animation techniques as well as stop motion

  • Her many talents, in graphics, animation and illustration have bestowed upon her a highly personal and easily recognizable style.
    She does screenwriting for animated films on a regular basis. Her filmography includes films: BEETLE, BOAT  AND APRICOT (2005), MOTHER AND MUSIC (2006), CAMILLA (2008), MY MUM IS AN AIRPLANE (2013) and ONE, TWO, TREE (2015).

  • Melanie was born in Clermont-Ferrand, now she lives and works in Strasbourg. She graduated at l’Ecole Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Strasbourg (2011), and since than her fields of interest are engraving, illustration and animation. 

  • According to her words, narration is in the middle of her work, while she use the imagination to talk with reality.
    In the year 2012 she realized short animation  BIRDS (puppet animation) as part of workshop project Nisi Massa in Lisboa, and 2013 she made five minutes long animation TOMORROW WILL BE RAINING, together with Anne-Céline Phanphengdy.
    She also did several books of illustrations, graphic maps, artistic installations and she frequently exhibit her artworks around Europe.
